UK-based Vedanta Resources is expected to start its bauxite mining project in the Orissa region of India by August.
The Niyamgiri mines, located in the Kalahandi district of Orissa, have already received stage I forest and environment clearances, according to financialexpress.com.
In order to develop the project, Vedanta Resources subsidiary Sterlite Industries set up a joint venture company with government-owned Orissa Mining.
The Nyamgiri mines are expected to produce about 76 million tonnes over their lifetime.
Vedanta has already set up an alumina refinery in the area, along with an aluminium smelter and a captive generating plant.
