Assay results from Pioneer Nickel's Lignum Dam gold project, 70km north-east of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia, show that the area has the potential to become a significant gold discovery, the company has said.

Pioneer's RAB drilling programme at the Tregurtha and Hughes Prospects identified mineralisation at shallow depths within dry oxidised rock.

The results are Pioneer's best so far at the project and the company plans to conduct first RC drilling for the prospects later this year.

The mineralisation is located within sheared and altered granodiorite, considered analogous to the Federal and Golden Cities deposits located nearby.
