Sweco has been awarded a consulting contract to help expand Boliden's ore production in Garpenberg, Sweden.

The scope of work will include structural engineering, land planning and building service systems, which include a new concentrator, new shafts, underground facilities and infrastructure.

Boliden will carry out the expansion process during over the next three years with a gradual increase in production, which will commence at the beginning of 2014 and peak at the end of 2015.

An investment of about SEK3.9bn ($619m) will be made for the expansion, which is expected to increase annual ore production from 1.4 million tons to 2.5 million tons.
