Ten Killed in Helicopter Crash Near Indonesian Mine

Ten people were killed when a helicopter en route to the Gosowong Mine on Halmahera Island, Indonesia, crashed near Manado at around 2.30pm local time on Wednesday.

Nusa Halmahera Minerals (NHM) chartered the helicopter from local aviation company Nyaman Air.

The cause of the crash is as yet unknown.

The helicopter was transporting eight employees and two crew members from Sulawesi Island to the mine, the company said.

The National Police has dispatched a forensic team to help in the identification process of those who died in the crash.

NHM is a joint venture between Newcrest Mining and Aneka Tambang.
