Caterpillar is planning to invest $50 million in an expansion of its remanufacturing facility in North Dakota, US.

The expansion will add 225,000ft² to the facility with the aim of increasing the production capacity for high-tech machining and metal additive processes.

The expansion will also increase the production of new and remanufactured piece parts and advanced wear coatings at the facility.

Caterpillar is expecting to commence construction this month, with operations to start in June 2012.

Caterpillar vice-president for remanufacturing and components Greg Folley said that the expansion will increase the firm's capability to provide unmatched customer support to the mining industry.
