India-based National Aluminium Company's bauxite mining lease for the Panchpatmali South Block in India has been renewed for 20 more years.

This will require the diversion of 1.1km² of forest land in the Koraput district of Orissa, reports The Economic Times.

The approval will help the firm improve its production capacity, with respect to the expansion projects being implemented currently at different units.

NALCO, in collaboration with the Orissa Government, will also take up certain measures for afforestation on degraded forest land.
