Fortescue Metals Group has awarded a $1bn contract to Mineral Resources for the design, construction and operation of the second ore processing facility and related infrastructure at Christmas Creek mine in Western Australia.

The contract will be delivered by Mineral Resources' subsidiary Crushing Services International (CSI).

The scope of work will include design, installation and operation of a 25Mtpa crushing and processing circuit.

The work will also include duplication of the CSI / Fortescue Christmas Creek upgraded 25Mtpa crushing and screening plant, and incorporation of a jigging circuit.
