Steel Authority of India (SAIL) is planning to open a global tender to outsource the mining of its 2bn-ton iron ore reserves at Chiria mines in Chattisgarh, India.

The firm will appoint a contract miner to operate the Rowghat iron ore mine near Bhilai, which consists of a 4Mt plant, reports the Economic Times.

The firm will also start a fresh tender for the development of the 4Mt Tasra coal block in Jharkhand, as the earlier bids were cancelled due to their high value.

SAIL chairman CS Verma said the firm is tendering the contract on a turnkey basis, and bidders, whether individually or as a consortium, will take up the land and R&R issues.
