Anvil Mining has started production of copper cathode at its Kinsevere stage two solvent extraction and electro-winning (SX-EW) mine in the Katanga province of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The firm has produced 36t of copper cathode, and total copper cathode production to date has reached 230t.

Currently, commissioning and ramp-up of the stage II plant is ongoing at the mine and the firm expects to complete the commissioning by the end of the second quarter of 2011.

Anvil Mining president and CEO Darryll Castle said that with the construction phase almost completed and commissioning progressing, the firm will focus on ramping up its production rate to 5,000t of copper cathode a month.
