Nautilus Minerals has ordered a subsea slurry lift pump (SSLP) from GE Oil & Gas, as part of the next step to construct its seafloor production system at the Solwara 1 project in Papua New Guinea.

The SSLP will be used to pump high-grade slurry from the bottom of the riser to the production support vessel (PSV) floating above 1600m.

The equipment will be key to producing commercial quantities of copper, gold and other metals from the deep ocean.

The Papua New Guinean Government has acquired a 30% interest in the project by providing financing and the mining lease.
