Sandvik Mining and Construction has signed a major materials handling contract worth SKr1.2bn ($197m) with an unnamed mining company in Latin America.

Under the contract, Sandvik will design and supply long distance belt conveyor systems for downhill transportation, with a designed capacity of 19,200 metric tons per hour of iron ore.

The operations are scheduled to start in 2013.
