NRW will undertake overburden removal and coal mining over the five-year contract period.

The contract will also include the commencement of ongoing mining operations in the second half of 2011 and ramp up to more than 5Mtpa of ROM coal.

The Middlemount coal project is a joint development between Macarthur Coal and Gloucester Coal, with a capital expenditure of A$120-145m ($126m-152.8m) for a period of 12 to 18 months.

NRW will undertake the contract using plant and equipment purchased from Comiskey Earthmoving, and new equipment as production ramps up.
