Botswana Diamonds (BOD) has received a diamond reconnaissance exploration licence for an 8,087km² area in the east of Cameroon, which is 85% held by BOD and 15% held by local Cameroon partners.

The licence has been granted for an initial year, followed by an automatic right to a year's extension of performance of the agreed work programme.

The company is implementing detailed satellite imagery and a review of existing information to identify the extent and distribution of the diamond bearing host rock, which will be followed by site visits to identify prospecting targets.

The reconnaissance licence lies to the south and west of the Mobilong licence region held by C&K Mining, where recent reports showed significant reserve of diamonds.

Botswana Diamonds chairman John Teeling said the firm will work to reduce its licence area to 1,000km² by identifying specific areas likely to contain diamonds.
