All 43 workers at the Sorrange coal mine in Pakistan have died following the methane gas explosions on Sunday, government officials have announced.

The mine, located about 30km from Quetta city in Balochistan Province, collapsed and caught fire after the blasts.

The bodies of the workers have been retrieved and the 4,000ft deep mine has been sealed, Iftikhar Ahmed, provincial chief inspector of mines for Balochistan told AFP.

The mine was poorly ventilated, allowing poisonous gases to accumulate and trigger the blasts.
