AMEC Awarded EPCM Contract for Chile Iron Ore Project

AMEC has received an engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contract for the $574m Cerro Negro Norte iron ore project in Chile.

Work will begin immediately and commissioning is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2013.

Once complete, the mine is expected to produce four million tons of iron ore concentrate per annum over a period of 19 years.

Chile's Compañía Minera del Pacífico awarded the contract to the firm.

Compañía Minera del Pacífico executive vice-president Pierino Venturini said that AMEC has provided a comprehensive proposal.
