WPG Resources' subsidiary Southern Iron has awarded a mining services contract to Mining & Civil Australia for the Peculiar Knob Iron Ore Direct Shipping Ore project in Australia.

The $285m contract includes drilling, blasting and the loading and haulage of ore and waste material at the project, over nearly six years.

The company said in a statement that the mobilisation is expected to commence in April this year.

According to WPG Resources, the Peculiar Knob project contains high-grade undeveloped iron ore deposits and produces about 3.3 million tons of high-grade iron per annum, once in full production.
