Finnish mining technology firm Outotec has signed a contract with Canada's SNC-Lavalin engineering and construction company to design and deliver a copper flash smelting furnace to RTB Bor's smelter in Serbia.

RTB Bor will replace its old reverb-type copper smelter with a Outotec Flash Smelting Furnace to improve the environmental performance of the plant.

The project is expected to be completed by 2013 and produce 80,000t of copper anode per annum while reducing liquid and gaseous emission levels to European standards.

The contract value is estimated at about €60m ($82m).
