GMDC to Develop $3bn Alumina Project

The Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) of India is planning to develop a INR136bn ($3bn) alumina project in Kutch District, Gujarat. The GMDC is planning to develop a one-million-ton alumina refinery along with a 500,000t aluminium smelter, according to Business Standard. <

Nine companies have submitted expression of interests to partner with the government to develop the project.

GMDC managing director VS Gadvhi said it would select one of the companies after carrying out a technical assessment as well as financial background checks.

The corporation also plans to construct a desalination plant to supply water for industries in Kutch, which are being served by a temporary pipeline.
