Sandvik Mining and Construction has been chosen as the preferred supplier of mobile machines for Rio Tinto's iron ore capacity expansion.

Rio plans to raise capacity to 283 million tons per annum in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

The project includes the delivery and commissioning of nine Sandvik mobile machines before mid-2013 at several port and mine sites in the Pilbara.

The project is the largest mining project ever undertaken in Australia by Rio Tinto.
