Adani Enterprises has obtained an order to develop and operate a coal block in the state of Orissa, India.

The Indian firm will carry out the development and operation of the Chendipada coal block, which will have an annual mining capacity of 40 million tons.

Adani will also initiate land acquisition, rehabilitation and resettlement, prepare a mine plan and acquire needed approvals and clearances.

The company will establish a coal washery, railway siding and deliver coal to end users in three Indian states.

The Chendipada coal block is in the Talcher coalfield, and is estimated to have a reserve of 1.6 billion tons.

Under the deal, Adani will get to use coal washer rejects for a joint-venture 2000MW power plant.

Adani holds an 89% stake in the plant, with the rest held by the UCM Coal Company.
