Maptek PointStudio software offers all the tools to support survey, geotechnical and engineering deliverables within the mining, quarry and civil industries, in a modern 3D user interface. The software is proven to improve efficiency and productivity through a streamlined ‘field to finish’ workflow.

PointStudio allows operations to incorporate data from laser scanners with conventional survey and mapping data and aerial capture systems. Surveyors can work efficiently to deliver pit surface updates and conformance to design data into planning and operations for closing the feedback loop across the mining value chain.

Laser scanners and dedicated spatial software

Maptek R3 series laser scanners are the only terrestrial laser scanners sealed to IP65 and ruggedised to withstand the tough mining environment.

The systems provide a fast, accurate and safe approach for site and topographic survey. Extra long range and long range XR3 and LR3 laser scanners can be set up on a tripod or vehicle for efficient operation. Continuous mobile survey is possible with the latest INS-enabled vehicle mount, promoting the highest safety and efficiency for survey crews operating in active areas.

PointStudio software allows for filtering and registering data and creating terrain models, contours and volume calculations on spatial point cloud data collected by the Maptek R3 laser scanner series. Users can generate 3D models and accurate volumes to reconcile materials for indoor and outdoor stockpiles to efficiently meet reporting and contractor deadlines.

Maptek mine measurement technology provides an integrated pit survey solution for routine and end-of-month reporting as well as pre- and post blast survey, toe and crest detection, geotechnical analysis and optimising equipment loads.

The Maptek SR3 laser scanner is designed for underground operation, measuring voids, drives, and tunnels with ease, while maintaining the versatility to handle interior silo survey and stockpile measurements.

Geological and geotechnical applications

Highwall survey collects data that is critically important for geological mapping and geotechnical analysis for overall site risk management. Maptek R3 laser scanners feature an inbuilt HDR camera which captures 147MP high-resolution photographs at the same time as scanning.

This detailed structural data allows dip and strike information to be updated on joint sets for easily mapping contact boundaries between geological features. Geologists and geotechnical engineers can create stereonets and rose diagrams for analysis, and confidently identify structural weaknesses that may affect operational decisions. Kinematic analysis can also be conducted for potential failure types such as wedge, planar and toppling to develop safer mine designs.

Ensuring all the required survey data is captured in a scanning session is a critical component of surveyor safety and productivity. The ability to overlay georeferenced CAD lines and surfaces and annotate scans on the Maptek handheld scanner controller helps surveyors to capture field data, check that the data is meaningful and return to the office quickly. This enhances the interpretation of survey data and reduces the need for manual data entry and potential for mistakes arising from it.
