Canadian metals and mining firm Teck Resources has been named as one of the 2019 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations by media and investment research company Corporate Knights.

It was the top-ranked company in the metals and mining category and stood at 37th position in the list with an overall score of 69.11%.

Teck is also the only mining firm to have made it to the list.

The company’s president and CEO Don Lindsay said: “Teck is committed to producing the materials essential to building a better quality of life for people around the world in a responsible and sustainable manner.

“This recognition is made possible by the hard work of our employees, who are focused on strengthening communities, protecting the environment, and contributing to a better world.”

The top 100 companies for the global list are chosen from all publicly traded companies that have annual revenues of $1bn or more.

Teck is a mining and mineral company with focus on copper, steelmaking coal, zinc and energy.

The 2019 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations list is topped by Chr. Hansen, a Denmark-based firm that develops natural solutions for the food, beverage, nutritional, pharmaceutical and agricultural industries.

France-based Kering made it to second in the list, under apparel and accessories category. Finland-based energy company Neste figured third in the list, under the petroleum refineries category.
