Poseidon Nickel is making preparations to start line access clearing at Lake Johnston Medusa Lithium Project in Western Australia after securing the necessary regulatory approvals from the Department of Parks and Wildlife (DPaW) and Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP).

The Medusa Lithium Project is located within E63/1067 on the Lake Johnston tenements, 190km south-west of Kalgoorlie and 6km from Lake Johnston process plant and infrastructure.

In October last year, Poseidon completed soil sampling and surface geochemistry analysis at the project. The company also identified preliminary prospective exploration targets in the region.

Following this, Poseidon completed airborne geophysical survey and drill targeting in January.

The extensive soil sampling, rock chip sampling, aerial magnetic and radiometric surveys allowed the company to identify multiple highly prospective lithium exploration targets at the property. Rock chip sampling of outcropping pegmatites indicated results of up to 3.85% Li2O and presence of Ta2O5.

Surface soil sampling returned several geochemical anomalies of greater than 200ppm and up to 650ppm.

Identified radiometric anomalies correspond with the Li_Index soil anomalies and mapped pegmatites, enabling primary exploration drill targets to be defined.

"Rock chip sampling of outcropping pegmatites indicated results of up to 3.85% Li2O and presence of Ta2O5."

The company will conduct line clearing, mapping and drill target refinement, which is scheduled to start shortly in preparation for starting the drilling programme that will consist of 4,000m of RC drilling.

Lake Johnston process plant has the capacity to process 1.5 million tonnes of ore per annum, which will be used to produce spodumene concentrate.

The area surrounding the Lake Johnston property is known to be highly prospective for lithium with multiple companies exploring this region for the element.
