Zijin Mining is unlikely to resume production at its copper mine this year following a leak at the site in the summer, it has been revealed.

Rebuilding of the mine's wastewater treatment tank has started and will be inspected before the company is granted a production licence, reports Xinhua.

In July about 9,100m³ of wastewater from Zijin's copper mine's treatment plant in Shanghang County leaked into the Tingjiang River, killing thousands of fish.

The company suspended production at the mine and lowered its copper output target to 90,000t for 2010.
