Ten biggest producing underground mines in the Former Soviet Union in 2020

Here are the ten largest underground mining projects by production in the Former Soviet Union in 2020, according to GlobalData’s mining database.

1. DTEK Pavlogradugol Mining Complex

The DTEK Pavlogradugol Mining Complex is a coal mining project in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine. The brownfield project is owned by DTEK Energy and is due to operate until 2060. The mine produced an estimated 20.175Mt of ROM in 2020. It had an estimated production of 14.526 mtpa of coal in 2020.

2. Berezniki-4 Mine

The Berezniki-4 Mine is a potash mine owned by Uralkali. Located in Perm Krai, Russia, the greenfield mine produced approximately 17.507Mt of ROM in 2020. It had an estimated production of 2.653 mtpa of potash in 2020. The expected mine closure date is 2039.

3. Yalevskogo Underground Mine

The Raspadskaya Mine is a coal mine owned by Evraz Plc. Located in Kemerovo Oblast, Russia, the brownfield mine produced approximately 5.857Mt of ROM in 2020. It had an estimated production of 3.715 mtpa of coal in 2020.

8. Gaisky Mine Complex

Located in Orenburg Oblast, Russia, the Gaisky Mine Complex is a copper mining project owned by Ural Mining and Metallurgical.

The brownfield mine produced an estimated 5.763Mt of ROM in 2020. It had an estimated production of 181.544 thousand tonnes of copper in the same year.

9. Berezovsky Mine

The Berezovsky Mine is a potash mine located in Minskaya, Belarus. Owned by Belaruskali, the greenfield project produced an estimated 5.674Mt of ROM in 2020.

The mine had an estimated production of 1.297 mtpa of potash in 2020. The Berezovsky Mine will operate until 2055.

10. Stariobin Potash Mine

Owned by Belaruskali, the Stariobin Potash Mine is a potash mine situated in Minskaya, Belarus.

The ROM production at the mine produced was approximately 5.633Mt of ROM in 2020. It had an estimated production of 5.408 mtpa of potash in 2020.
