Rapid Ramp-Up of the Tropicana HPGR Circuit
The 5.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) Tropicana Gold Project in Western Australia adopted a HPGR ball mill comminution circuit due to the high cost of power generation and to reduce its energy footprint in line with its environmental operating licence.
In order to maximise the benefit from the HPGR, closed circuit operation with wet screening at 4mm was selected. The process plant was commissioned in the third quarter of 2013 with ramp up to design throughput in only a few weeks. Throughput has been maintained at or above nameplate following the transition from finer, near surface oxides to more competent primary and transition ore.
