The Chuquicamata copper mine is located in the northern part of Chile, about 16km from the city of Calama. The study described in this paper corresponds to the work carried out by the mine’s geotechnical department between 2013 and 2016, with the support of SRK Consulting, with the objective of providing the management with the appropriate information to base decisions on the best slope steepening alternative for closure of the pit.
