North America’s metals & mining industry saw a rise of 1.8% in overall deal activity during Q1 2020, when compared to the four-quarter average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 167 deals worth $4.73bn were announced for the region during Q1 2020, against the last four-quarter average of 164 deals.

Of all the deal types, M&A saw most activity in Q1 2020 with 152, representing a 91.02% share for the region.

In second place was private equity with nine deals, followed by venture financing deals with six transactions, respectively capturing a 5.4% and 3.6% share of the overall deal activity for the quarter.

4) The $300m private equity deal with New Gold by Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan

5) Guerrero Ventures’ asset transaction with Orion Resource Partners (USA) for $268m.
