Gekko is excited to announce today that it has developed a bowl replacement system for all common batch centrifugal concentrators including the InLine Spinner and other gravity gold recovery devices. The new liner system can be simply fitted to any of the existing BCC units. The hydrophobic bowl liner is reported to replace its previous riffle system technology made of polyurethane, ceramic, rubber and stainless steel, and offers greater wear durability and lower cost.
Nick Katsikaros, Gekko’s product improvement manager, said, “It’s a really exciting development for us and we hope it will pave the way for future innovation in this area.” The new liner incorporates micropore technology with a grown organic microfiber and was developed in line with the company’s strategy to provide environmentally friendly mining equipment and processes. Katsikaros added, “The new liner uses a superfine sawtooth riffle profiled fibre. This design has been based on years of research around the notion that even flow rate distribution promotes perfect dispersion of water flow in the concentration layer.”
The secret to the super recovery achieved to date in trials is the ultra thin film technology made possible by the lubricity of the dispersed water layer at the interface between injection water and slurry feed. High density particles are trapped in the micro-riffle whilst back pressure water generates a teeter-bed separation at the interface. The fabric is attached to a specially grown and perforated backing layer which acts to promote the primary water dispersion as well as control back-pressure required for water flow control.
In previous designs the lining materials were reported to deteriorate after usage and required regular replacement at a high cost. This new innovation will minimise the level of maintenance and costs associated with general wear and tear on the machinery whilst radically increasing performance of the unit.
This totally organic, Australian-made material was sourced from saltbush country in the far north of South Australia. It has undergone many natural processes to enhance performance and wear-life and further development will enhance its capabilities.
Gekko hopes it will fit the bill nicely within its already widely used range of mining machinery. We believe this is our greatest breakthrough to date ‘baaa none’! The new Golden Fleece Bowl Liner will out perform any existing liner system.
