Bridge Project Solutions Project Management Contracting and Consulting Services for the Mining Sector
BPS is an Australia-based project management contracting and consulting services with an extensive history of support for the mining industry.
Our qualified and industry-accredited professionals have safely and successfully delivered sustaining and minor capital expenditure projects in the iron ore, gold and coal mining and processing areas.
Our team will typically embed within the client’s team, utilising its project frameworks, systems, processes and templates.
When necessary, BPS can provide complementary project tools or templates as needed. We are fuel storage and dangerous goods experts, as well as experienced in large renewable energy (solar photovoltaic) installations. We have the know-how to achieve planning and regulatory approvals for our client’s projects.
Project management services for the mining sector
BPS offers a wide range of consultancy and management services to our clients.
These include business case development and feasibility studies, planning for safety and environmental compliance, tollgate approvals, and contracting and packaging strategy development.
We also provide specification development and procurement planning, tender process management, contract award and management.
Our detailed design oversight services comprise safety reviews, integration engineering and constructability reviews, as well as design and construction integration, risk reviews, plant outage and construction coordination.
Project delivery performance improvements
BPS consultants are industry-recognised sustaining and minor project delivery experts.
We are experienced at undertaking performance health checks to establish opportunities to improve project delivery performance and optimise the return on investment. This includes a review of the skills and capabilities of project resources, along with the frameworks, tools and templates used to deliver projects.
BPS can also implement improvements in these areas, as well as offer coaching and mentoring for project delivery staff.
Our staff have won global corporate awards for the design and development of minor project frameworks, in addition to service delivery excellence. We can therefore assist you to evaluate your project portfolio and available resources to identify ways to extract optimum value.
Safety and environmental philosophy
BPS strongly believes that all accidents are preventable and has a zero harm to people, plant and the environmental values system and associated culture.
We will implement the client’s health, safety and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures to safely and sustainably implement each project. A proactive approach is typically undertaken the planning for safety at scope definition stage, safety in design reviews, as well as constructability, operability and maintainability reviews.
Finite resources and skills shortages
BPS understand the constraints most mining operations face with a shortage or limited supply of resources such as utilities, power, water and people. In addition, miners face a lack of skilled, mining experienced project managers with tertiary engineering qualifications to deliver their sustaining and minor project programme.
BPS assists its clients to overcome these hurdles by providing experienced project and construction managers, most of which have credentials with either the Australian Institute of Project Managers (AIPM) and or the Project Management Institute (PMI).
Previous mining projects
A sample range of projects we deliver for the mining sector includes raw materials handling upgrades, fuel storage facilities, primary crusher repairs, and leach tank strake replacements.
We additionally perform studies for secondary water supplies and heavy plant maintenance facility extension, as well as plant commissioning improvements.
We have also managed upgrades for shafts, shaft winders, cooling systems, tailings pumps, and stockpile and grinding circuits.
Our personnel have extensive experience managing programmes of sustaining capital projects, which involve leading teams of 150 or more contractor personnel during processing plant shutdowns or outages.
A BPS project success story involved client-side project management for the delivery of an A$35m raw materials handling upgrade within an operating facility. It involved nearly 800m of new enclosed belt conveyors requiring difficult crane lifts in and around the existing plant. A total of 16 new ceramic-lined transfer chutes were to be installed, 12 of which were to retrofit into existing transfer points.
All chutes were designed to successfully transfer both iron ore pellets and wet, high-clay content iron ore fines. A series of short-term plant shutdowns were required to remove the old chute structures and install new. This required comprehensive constructability reviews, intensive and detailed planning, as well as effective contractor management skills. All chutes were safely and successfully installed and commissioned.
To facilitate project complexity, a four-storey high-transfer tower was required to be dismantled by approximately 50% while still operating, and rebuilt with new equipment. A new 95m-long, 6m-high retaining wall for iron ore stockpiling was also safely installed in and around an operating stockpile area with constant movements of heavy machinery.
