Applied Rigaku Technologies, Inc. today announced a new empirical method for the elemental analysis of measurement of silver (Ag) as well as other precious metals in barite (BaSO4) ore.

From screening at the mine site and throughout processing to final analysis, elemental analysis of mining materials is essential to ensure proper extraction and process control. Elemental analysis, especially of precious metals, is also extremely important to ensure the value of the processing is optimized. Application Note #1221 demonstrates the effectiveness of low cost energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) analysis for elemental analysis of metals in ore samples.

The new method demonstrates the capabilities of the Rigaku NEX QC EDXRF elemental analyzer in meeting industry demands for a fast and simple technique suitable for measurement along the entire processing line. The results of the study indicate the Rigaku NEX QC EDXRF analyzer is an optimal tool for screening and quantifying silver as well as major and minor elements commonly found in mining and ore material. The NEX QC can reliably measure elements from Na to U, offering the versatility needed to adapt as existing processes are refined and new processes are introduced.
