Leighton wins service contract for Australia mine

Leighton Contractors, through its mining division, has received a contract to provide mining services at the Peak Downs Mine located in Central Queensland's Bowen Basin.

The three year contract, worth $604m, was awarded by BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA).

The scope of work includes provision of project management, fleet maintenance and operational services for overburden mining at the project site.

Leighton Contractors' Mining Division general manager Greg Fokes said the contract award recognises the hard work that the mining team has put into the project over the years at Peak Downs.

"Our relationship with BMA at Peak Downs has now entered its eleventh year and we look forward to continuing to work with BMA and developing future opportunities in the region," said Fokes.

Peak Downs is a large open cut coking coal mine and is one of the seven mines in Bowen Basin owned by BMA.
