Australia to Direct More Tax Proceeds to Mining States
Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said the government will direct a bigger share of the super profits tax proceeds back to the mining states of Western Australia and Queensland.
The government has indicated that states home to the resources will get the lion's share in line with their role in the total mining production, according to AAP.
"The government will therefore establish a new $6bn Regional Infrastructure Fund," Rudd said.
Meanwhile, over 2,000 protesters have gathered on Perth's foreshore to protest against tax.
