Petaquilla Minerals' subsidiary Petaquilla Gold has received authorisation from the Government of the Republic of Panama to begin commercial production at its Molejon gold mine in the District of Donoso, Province of Colon, Republic of Panama.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued the letter for authorisation under Contract Law No 9 of 26 February 1997.
The mine is currently in its final phase of commissioning.
Since production testing began leading to Petaquilla's first gold pour on 7 April 2009, the mine has generated 25,699oz of gold.
The company expects to generate nearly 2,200t a day during the initial year of commercial production.
