Anglo American is establishing a single global hub for marketing its Brazilian and South African iron-ore in expectation of massive upcoming iron-ore trading volumes.
The diversified miner is projected to have an annual production capacity of more than 150 million tonnes of iron-ore from its Brazilian and South African iron-ore operations by 2016, according to Mining Weekly Online.
Anglo's iron-ore projects have the capacity to produce 80 million tonnes of output per annum.
Along with conceptual projects, there is the potential to increase the capacity beyond 150 million tonnes per annum by 2016 with new projects, such as the Amapa project in Brazil and Sishen expansion project (SEP) in South Africa.
Anglo also has approval for the Sishen South and Minas-Rio projects, and a SEP 2 project is currently being considered.
With these projects on the cards, Brazil is likely to produce 60% of Anglo’s output.
The projects will help establish Anglo as the fourth largest iron-ore producer, ahead of Australia's FMG.
