BC Iron Strikes Infrastructure Deal with Fortescue

01 June 2009

Australian iron ore producer BC Iron has secured a deal with Fortescue Metals Group for it to provide rail haulage and port services for BC Iron’s Nullagine project in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.

The initial production target will be three million tonnes per year rising to five million tonnes, once port and rail facilities are expanded, according to the agreement.

BC Iron managing director Mike Young said that the deal would overcome the critical barriers to production caused by lack of open access to rail and port facilities.
