NALCO Secures Coal Sites for Indonesian Plant

15 May 2008 15:05

India's National Aluminium Co (NALCO) has shortlisted up to three coal mines in the Indonesian capital Jakarta to secure supplies for a power plant.

NACLO, India's number two aluminium producer, previously signed an initial agreement with the Indonesian Government in January to build a 500,000-tonne smelter in phases, costing US$3.4bn.

The company told Reuters it is now awaiting a feasibility report on the sites, due in six months.

NALCO is currently in the midst of US$1.2bn expansion, including plans to set up smelters in South Africa, Iran and Saudi Arabia.
