China Quake Halts Coal Mines

The Chinese Government has suspended production at coal mines in southwest China to perform safety checks following a massive earthquake which hit the Sichuan province yesterday.

Sichuan province is the site of major gas fields and coal mines.

The 7.9-magnitude quake, which struck on Monday afternoon, has so far killed 10,000.
