Codelco Chile Strikes Over

06 May 2008 16:00

Copper miner Codelco has announced it will resume output at the El Teniente mine in Chile after contract workers ended a three-week strike and protest.

The Confederation of Copper Workers will return to work after winning bonuses of CLP500,000 (US$1,073) per contract employee, it was announced to local media yesterday.

Production at the El Teniente mine is expected to resume this afternoon.

The El Teniente and Andina mines in Central Chile, together with the Andina and Salvador mines, have been affected by strikes, which helped push global copper prices to near-record highs over the past few weeks.
