Zambia Gets Uranium Mining Go-Ahead

24 April 2008 15:59

Zambia is set to begin licensing uranium exploration and mining following a ruling by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) this week.

The IAEA has approved its legal framework, which guides activities surrounding the extraction of uranium in the country.

The guidelines also include the storage and transportation of uranium and other radioactive minerals.

The country could begin producing and exporting uranium by 2009, which is hoped will create more jobs and boost the economy, according to Zambian press reports.
