Two Chinese coal mine managers have each been sentenced to seven years in prison for their part in floods that killed 172 miners last August, according to state media reports.
Huayuan Mining Company Chairman Zheng Zhenxiu and Deputy General Manager Zhang Canjun were found liable for the deaths in a flood at the mine in eastern China because they did not stop production or evacuate the mine, reports the Beijing News.
The report did not specify the charges, which remain unconfirmed by the local government and mining bureau, writes Associated Press.
The accident happened when heavy rains burst a dike that flooded the mine.
Nine miners died in another mine shaft nearby that also was flooded.
Nearly 3,800 people died last year following accidents at China's mines.
