Reliance Plans Indian Coal Mines

27 March 2008

Indian energy company Reliance Power plans to invest about Rs30bn over three years to develop three coal mines, writes Thompson Financial.

The mines will fuel the Sasan ultra mega power project in the central state of Madhya Pradesh, according to Indian sources.

The three captive, pit-head coal mines in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh, have combined estimated reserves of 750 million tonnes.

The company is awaiting government approval for its field development plan and is expected to form a strategic alliance with North American Coal Corp to develop the mines, writes Thompson.
