Chinese geologists have made a large uranium discovery in the northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, expected to produce about four billion tonnes of coal.
After 17 years of work in the area, the scientists discovered the country's first 10,000t level leaching sandstone-type uranium deposit in the Yili basin, writes official Chinese news agency Xinhua.
The geologists believe the deposit will produce around US$40bn (more than CNY300bn)-worth of uranium, coal and associated minerals.
