Newmont Considers Australian Sale

11 February 2008

Newmont Mining says it could sell off most of its assets in Australia in an effort to reduce its high-cost operations.

In an interview with Australia's The Age today, Newmont's chief executive Dick O'Brien said the company is evaluating the option as part of a company-wide review.

O'Brien says funds could be used from the sale for acquisition, as well as clear up a cash-flow deficit.
