De Beers Granted South African Mining Rights

07 February 2008

Diamond producer De Beers has announced it has been granted new mining rights by the South African Government.

The mining rights are required under new mining laws where all companies must reapply for mining and prospecting licences.

De Beers also received mining order rights for its new Voorspoed mine, which the firm expects will produce one million carats a year when in full production in 2009, writes Reuters.
