Venezuela Expected to Change Mining Laws

14 December 2007

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is expected to use presidential powers to eliminate mining concessions and replace them with mining licenses.

It is not clear when the new law, which will be enacted by decree, will come into effect, Dow Jones reports.

It is also unclear how the changes will affect companies who already hold mining concessions.

Gold and diamonds are the major mining products of the South American country.
