Leighton Wins Queensland Coal Contract

The mining division of Australian company Leighton Holdings has won a five-year contract worth more than $400m to carry out bulk and selective coal-mining operations in central Queensland.

The Middlemount project, operated by Custom Mining, is a coal project situated about 15km from Middlemount, Central Queensland. The project will begin in the second half of this year and is expected to produce approximately 4 million tonnes of coal a year.

Leighton Holdings say the project, which has an initial life span of 12 years, will employ more than 100 mining personnel when it reaches full production.
