Evraz begins construction of Russian coking coal mine
Russian firm Evraz Group has started construction of a new coking coal mine, Yerunakovskaya-VIII, in the mining division of Yuzhkuzbassugol in Russia.
The firm will invest R17bn ($590m) in the project over the next three years.
The mine development will start from the Yerunakovskiy-VIII deposit with the potential to further expand into the Yerunakovskiy-Vostochnyi deposit.
The firm will also build a new handling capacity at Kazankovskaya railway station and a local motorway for coal transportation.
The mine is expected to reach a total production capacity of 2Mtpa of raw coking coal by the end of 2014.
According to the firm, the coal mine operations are scheduled to begin in mid-2013.
