Australia-based Mantra Resources is planning to build a uranium mine worth $400m in Tanzania in the next three years.
The Tanzania Government will allocate about 345km² of land in the Selous Game Reserve area for the project.
Tanzania's Natural Resources and Tourism Minister Ezekiel Maige said the government has sought approval from world heritage body UNESCO to re-demarcate the territory of the Selous Game Reserve, in order to set up the uranium mine.
"The proposed land to be removed from the Selous to pave the way for the mine is just 0.69% of the total land surface of the game reserve. We expect to get final UNESCO clearance on the project by June 2012," Maige said.
Tanzania has 54Mlb of uranium oxide deposits and expects to start mining some of the minerals, reports Reuters.
