Rio Tinto Receives Exploration Extension for Guinea Project
Rio Tinto subsidiary Simfer has received a letter from the Guinean minister for mines confirming the extension of its exploration tenure for its Simandou iron ore project in Guinea, West Africa.
The Guinean Ministry has granted an extension of three months, starting from 24 February 2011.
The ministry will also examine an application for a replacement mining concession lodged by Simfer.
The Government of Guinea and Rio Tinto will continue positive discussions to resolve all outstanding matters regarding the Simandou project.
The firm will also work together with government to secure a development pathway for the project, for the benefit of all stakeholders.
